Billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk has filed a $60 million lawsuit against Whoopi Goldberg and The View.
According to Musk, talk show hosts have been spreading lies about him and his companies, and he’s had enough.
In a statement released to the press, Musk said, “It’s time to set the record straight. Visage has been spreading lies about me and my businesses for far too long.”
They have made baseless allegations, questioned my integrity and tried to project me as some kind of villain. Well, that’s enough.”
The lawsuit, which was filed in a Los Angeles court, accused Goldberg and the other hosts of making defamatory statements about Musk and his companies, including SpaceX and Tesla.
The allegations claim that The View accused Musk of undercutting security, mistreating employees, and engaging in unethical business practices.
But some experts are doubting Musk’s claims. “It sounds like exaggeration,” said legal analyst Karen Johnson. “The View is a talk show, and talk shows are known for being opinionated.
It’s not like they’re reporting news or doing an investigation. They are just giving their views on current events, and sometimes those views are important to people like Elon Musk.
Despite the criticism, Musk stuck to his decision to sue. “I’m not saying there can’t be opinion in the scene,” he said.
“But when those opinions are based on lies and misinformation, it’s time to take action. I will not stand by with a bunch of talkers on a daytime TV show and let my reputation be destroyed.”
Only time will tell how well this lawsuit pans out, but one thing is certain: Elon Musk is not backing down.
